Steven received his law degree from the University of Alberta Faculty of Law in 2018. He was awarded an entrance scholarship for his prior academic achievement. In school, his interests included Family Law, Human Rights, and International Law. He won the Department of Justice Canada’s national Human Rights Video Competition for his submission examining Canada’s arms export policies.  

Prior to law school, Steven served for 24 years with the Canadian Armed Forces. He served in a variety of roles throughout Western Canada, starting his career as an infantry soldier and later as a paratrooper in the Army. He also served as a Peacekeeper in Bosnia Herzegovina. He transferred to the Royal Canadian Air Force, serving as an Aviation Technician before receiving his Commission and becoming an Intelligence Officer.

In his spare time, Steven enjoys photography, recreational skiing, back-country camping, and riding his motorcycle. Now that his children are grown, he and his wife have filled their empty nest with their five adopted pets.
